Patient Access Communications Letter March 2024

Dear Patient,

We are sorry to hear of your difficulty in getting through to the practice.  This is not the service we strive to offer, we like many other Practices across the UK are struggling to meet the current level of demand for our services.

We will continue to do our best each day to deliver as many appointments as it is safe to do so.

We regularly review our access model and telephone data (particularly with a view to managing the 8am rush) and thought it would be useful to share some telephone data with you, along with ways in which you can help to reduce the 8am rush.

Appointment data

In February 2024, we provided -

  • 8557 Pharmacy, GP, Advanced Nurse Practitioner appointments.
  • 142 of those were not attended or cancelled.
  • 138 were allocated to home visits.

Community Pharmacy/Pharmacy First

There are many things you don’t need to see a GP for as these can be dealt with by the Community PharmacyThere is a new nationally commissioned service called Pharmacy First which has been implemented throughout Liverpool whereby it will offer treatment for seven common conditions, including:

  • sinusitis
  • a sore throat
  • earache
  • infected insect bites
  • impetigo
  • shingles
  • uncomplicated urinary tract infections in women

Antibiotics

Antibiotics do not work for viruses and so it may not be appropriate to issue you with antibiotics.

Resistance to antibiotics is rising and they are no longer routinely used to treat chest infections, ear infections in children or sore throats (NHS England) as most viruses will clear up on their own.

Self help

Depending on the nature of your illness, some self-help remedies may be all that is needed.
